As the seasons shifted and the backyard filled with fiery reds, golds, and soft browns, our little learners dove headfirst into a month bursting with adventure. Autumn has a way of slowing us down while also inviting children to explore with every sense and this year, our fall study was full of discovery, creativity, and pure joy. At Little Squirrels, we believe that childhood is meant to be experienced with the whole body, through muddy hands, wiggly toes, big questions, and endless curiosity. Children are natural explorers, and when we give them space, time, and trust, they show us how ready they are to learn. Play isn’t something extra or optional. Play is the work of childhood. Children learn best when that play is guided by their own curiosity and deep, instinctive drive to understand the world.

Better late than never, right? Last week we finally had our first real taste of autumn weather, and with that, we gently eased from our Apple Unit into all things fall. Normally, we explore apples closer to the beginning of October, but this year the unseasonably warm weather had us holding onto summer just a little longer.
